案内 Japanese vs English Yu-Gi-Oh rarities
Ultra, Secret, Ultimate, Prismatic, and Over-Frame, in the words Japanese listings actually use.
English rarity words are a translation, and the translation is where money goes missing. The Japanese name on the card is the one that matches the foil.
The finishes you will actually see
Ultra Rare (ウルトラレア, UR). Gold name. The picture is not a sheet of hologram. If someone writes “Secret Rare” and the name is gold, they mean this, or they hope you will not notice.
Secret Rare (シークレットレア, SE, often just シク). Holographic name, diagonal sparkle on the art. Same character, different price. On 13 October 2026 CardRush asked ¥29,800 for the YAC1 Blue-Eyes color Secret and ¥5,980 for the color Ultra. The 27 September sheet had working figures near ¥18,000 and ¥5,200. Those older rows are still on the card pages, marked as not yet re-verified.
Ultimate Rare (アルティメットレア, レリーフ, UL). Embossed artwork. YAC1 prints 14 Super Rares this way. Black Luster Soldier is the one people chase. It is not a Secret.
Collector’s Rare (コレクターズレア, CR). A different textured finish, also on 14 YAC1 Super Rares. Not the same 14 as the Ultimates.
Prismatic Secret (プリズマティックシークレット, PSE). Heavier rainbow foil than a plain Secret. YAC1 has 38.
Over-Frame (オーバーフレーム, OF). Konami’s YAC1 page says 10 of those 38 Prismatics are Over-Frame, and that 10 Ultras also exist as Over-Frame. The page does not describe the foil. Ask for the words オーバーフレーム and the JP number. JP004 is the expensive one: CardRush asked ¥10,800 on 13 October 2026. JP002 was ¥1,280 the same day. The finish is not the price.
Grand Master Rare. Ten serialized Ultras. Konami will not exchange them. The pricing sheet had no day-one retail, so this site does not invent one.
Quarter Century Secret belongs to other products. Do not assume a YAC1 card is one.
Manga style
JP071 through JP100 are manga-style Ultras. Each also exists as a Secret, and each of those exists in color and in mono. Four listings, one name. Color versus mono is not a photo filter. It is a different print.
The decoder has the full table and a title checker. The mislabel guide is the checklist to use while you scroll Mercari.
Questions
Is a Japanese Ultra Rare the same as a Secret Rare?
No. Ultra Rare has a gold-foil name. Secret Rare has a holographic name and sparkle across the art. English titles mix them up constantly.
What is an Over-Frame card?
On YAC1, Konami says 10 of the 38 Prismatic Secrets are Over-Frame cards, numbers JP001 through JP010.
