Yu-Gi-Oh first · Pokémon and One Piece later

The foil the title skipped.

Japanese rarity names are shorter than the English ones, and sellers translate them loosely. Ultra titled as Secret is the usual miss. YAC1 makes it worse, because one character name can be four manga finishes plus an Over-Frame on a different card.

Japanese code, English name

CodeJapaneseEnglishWhat to look at
Common Plain card. No foil name.
R レア Rare Foil name, usually silver. Artwork is not holographic.
Super Rare Foil name, often a different color treatment from a plain Rare. Still not a full-art holo.
Ultra Rare The name is gold foil. The artwork is not covered in holographic film. This is the finish English titles often miscall Secret.
Secret Rare The name is holographic, and the artwork carries a diagonal sparkle. Not the same card as the Ultra of the same name.
Ultimate Rare Embossed gold artwork, the relief. YAC1 puts this on 14 Super Rares. It is not a Secret.
Collector's Rare A textured collector finish. YAC1 puts it on 14 Super Rares, a different 14 from the Ultimates.
Prismatic Secret Rare Denser rainbow foil than a plain Secret. YAC1 has 38 of these.
Over-Frame Konami’s name for 10 of the YAC1 Prismatic Secrets, JP001–JP010, plus an Ultra Over-Frame on those same 10 names. The product page does not describe the foil. Do not guess it from a blurry photo.
Grand Master Rare Ten YAC1 Ultras. Each card has its own serial number. Konami says they will not exchange or return it. The pricing sheet found no day-one retail price, so none is listed here.
Quarter Century Secret Rare The 25th-anniversary secret finish used in other products. YAC1 does not use this name.
Manga style, color or mono Thirty YAC1 names, JP071–JP100. Each exists as Ultra and Secret, and each of those as color and mono. That is four prices for one name.

YAC1’s counts are from Konami’s product page, checked 13 Oct 2026: https://www.yugioh-card.com/japan/products/yac1/. Ultra 25, Super 45, manga Ultra 30. Prismatic Secret on 38 names, 10 of them Over-Frame. Secret versions of the Ultras and Supers. Ultimate on 14 Supers, Collector’s on 14 Supers. Manga Ultras also have Secret versions, in mono and in color.

YAC1, the worked example

On 13 October 2026 CardRush asked ¥29,800 for the color Secret, ¥5,980 for the color Ultra, and ¥10,800 for the mono Secret. Launch weekend’s sheet had working figures near ¥18,000, ¥5,200, and ¥8,000. 神を超えたしもべ-青眼の究極竜 is a different card, YAC1-JP004, the Over-Frame Prismatic, ¥10,800 at CardRush that same day (the September working figure was about ¥15,000). A title that only says “Blue-Eyes Secret” can be any of those.

Red flags

  • The title says シークレット or Secret, and the photo shows a gold name with a flat picture. That is an Ultra.
  • The title says Secret and also レリーフ or Ultimate. Relief is embossed. It is not Secret.
  • The title says プリズマ and シークレット as if they were the same finish. On YAC1, ask whether it is one of the 10 Over-Frame cards.
  • 青眼の白龍 with no カラー or モノクロ. Those are different prices.
  • 青眼の究極竜 or 神を超えたしもべ sold as if it were the White Dragon.
  • ハーピィ・レディ with no 華麗なる分身, no SC, and no JP number. JP003 is the Over-Frame chase. JP082 is the manga Harpie Lady.
  • No set code. A usable YAC1 title includes YAC1-JP and three digits.
  • The word 買取. That is a shop’s buy price, not the price you pay.
  • A Grand Master Rare with a vanity price and no photo of the serial.
  • An English rarity word on a Japanese card. “Secret Rare” is how Ultras get sold to people who cannot read the foil.

Pokémon codes

Japanese pack codes are shorter than the English names on the international set. The picture style is the part sellers mix up. Storm Emerada uses these on the price pages.

CodeJapaneseWhat the English set usually calls it
Double Rare. The ordinary Pokémon ex.
Art Rare. English sets usually print this artwork as an Illustration Rare.
Super Rare. A textured full art of the Pokémon ex, not the special illustration.
Special Art Rare. English packs call the matching card a Special Illustration Rare.
Ultra Rare. The gold card.
Mega Ultra Rare. The gold mega chase in the current Japanese series.

A title that only says “Rayquaza SAR” can still be the wrong Rayquaza. On Storm Emerada the MUR is 113/076, the SAR is 110/076, and the SR is 095/076. Those three asks.
